Greetings RRWG,
Spring has sprung here in central Texas! It's easy to feel hopeful with the birds singing, the trees leafing out, and general access to COVID-19 vaccine on the horizon! Here's hoping your creativity is as prolific as the pollen. *ah-choo!*
We are pleased to announce that we have learned how to utilize Zoom's automated live transcript tool. Closed captioning is now available for all meetings. If you have questions about how to access it, please reach out.
Reminder: For the duration of our current health crisis, all RRWG meetings are held online. Zoom links are included in the posted meeting info. Our Zoom account has been generously provided by Diana and it is password protected, so an email containing the link and current password is sent to all who have RSVPed 30 min prior to each meeting. It's important that you whitelist info@meetup.com and allow emails in the settings for your MeetUp account if you wish to receive these emails.
HERE'S WHAT WE HAVE PLANNED FOR APRIL!
Let's Meetup and Write, First Saturday, 3 APR, 11:00am - 1:00pm. ADITYA will provide 10 min prompts to work those creative muscles.
Shop Talk, Second Saturday, 10 APR, 11:00am - 1:00pm. Offensive or Offended: Who Decides What is Okay to Write? MR. BILL will lead a conversation on the role authors have (or don't have?) in a world of increasing social awareness and diversity. This is a discussion, not a lecture, and all contributions are welcome. Bring your knowledge and questions!
Word Yoga, Third Saturday, 17 APR, 11:00am - 1:00pm. DIVID will provide a variety of poetry prompts. No poetry experience or skill required.
Story Challenge, Fourth Saturday, 24 APR, 11:00am - 1:00pm. SOLANGE will guide us through a long-form writing prompt. You can expect roughly 60 minutes to flex those creative writing muscles, followed by voluntary sharing. NO critiques are given during this meeting. The goal is to get words on the page ... there is no expectation that they will be polished words.
And of course, we welcome everyone to our weekly meetings:
Works in Progress - EVERY MONDAY from 6:00pm to 8:00pm we meet to critique each other’s works. If you have not attended a Monday night WIP, we ask you sit in on one before submitting or critiquing to see what it’s about. If you decide we’re the group for you, we’ll show you how, where, and when to submit your works for critique. REMINDER: submissions are limited to 10 pages, double spaced, and are due by 6:00 pm the previous Friday.
Check In & Chat - EVERY THURSDAY from 6:00pm to 8:00pm we meet to socialize. This is a chance to hang out with other writers, brag about successes, ask for help with plot holes or troublesome characters, and just have a little human connection. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about our group and get comfortable with the idea of sharing your words with us. If you need help staying motivated as you work toward the goals you set in January, this is the meeting for you!
If you're interested in facilitating one of our Saturday meetings, let us know. We always welcome guidance from new perspectives!
See you soon! Stay safe and take care of each other.
